Update # 1: The Finals of the 2012 Annual American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards were filmed in front of a live audience at the Beverly Hills Hilton on October 6, 2012 and will be broadcast on November 8, 2012.
Tune in this Thursday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT, on the Hallmark Channel for the broadcast premiere of the 2012 Hero Dog Awards. You will hear and see some amazing stories! Last year’s winner was Roselle, a guide dog who safely led her blind master down 78(!) flights of stairs following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
After nearly 3 million online votes, the choices were narrowed down to one finalist in each of eight (8) categories. These finalists were flown to Los Angeles for a star-studded gala evening, where they were each honored with a special award. At the end of the evening, one of the eight dogs was crowned as the overall Hero Dog of 2012.
For example, the finalist in the Search and Rescue Dogs category is Soot, a black Labrador, who rescued a lost 78-year-old, diabetic hunter one cold December morning. Another example is Tatiana II, a Hearing Dog, who is credited with saving the life of her owner by alerting family members when her owner suffered a severe asthma attack in 2 o’clock in the morning.
This year’s event promises to be something special – even by Los Angeles standards. For more information on the program and the dog finalists, see the Hero Dog Awards home page.
