It is a well-known fact that both humans and dogs need exercise to keep the body healthy. It is quite amazing, though, that dog owners do not always see that they can be joined together. You can combine dog exercise with your own so that you do not have to go to the gym every single day. In fact, you can exercise for free with your dog and enjoy the workout. Rollerblading is a prime example of how this can be done.
You can strap on rollerblades, put your dog in a harness and pick up the pace as you go. This should be a fun experience for both of you. Your dog will enjoy running alongside of you and will also appreciate the extra exercise. Of course, you will also feel much better! It is certainly something different if you have not tried it before.
However, there are some precautions you should take before starting out on this fun activity:
- Make sure that you are physically fit enough to start rollerblading. You should be checked by your family doctor before starting any new exercise program.
- Make sure that your dog is physically fit enough to handle it. Dogs should be evaluated by a veterinarian before starting a workout program. Also consider the dog’s age. Long distance workouts are not good for young and developing dogs and dogs that are too old may need to take it easy as well.
- Your dog needs to be well trained on the leash to make sure that he or she is safe and that you can fully control him or her. Your dog must stay to one side of you and not pull out in front while rollerblading with you. If your dog pulls ahead, he could cause damage to his throat or cause you to lose your balance and trip. If you do not yet have this level of training and control with your dog, then this fun activity will not be safe enough for you or your dog.
There is also some minimal equipment you need to take with you:
So – Can you go rollerblading with your dog? You definitely can – and it is a lot of fun!
